Vermont Foodbank Network Revitalized by Network Performance

January 10, 1997

The Vermont Foodbank will distribute about 2 million pounds of food to local food shelves and other non-profit, hunger-fighting organizations across Vermont this year. While a large figure, it falls far short of the estimated 5 million pounds needed in 1997. Vermont Foodbank Executive Director Ed Day says, "Food banks across the country are getting squeezed between deep federal funding cuts and a dramatic increase in the number of people looking toward food shelves for help."

Network Performance recently revitalized the Foodbank's computer network. This included upgrading to a newer version of Novell NetWare and the installation of Lotus's cc:Mail. These improvements enable the Vermont Foodbank to maintain close contact with other affiliates of the Second Harvest National Food Bank Network.

The Foodbank uses the Novell network as a platform for its fund raising activities. Day says, "Having a stable network allows us to be more efficient in our fund raising effort and cuts down on time lost to solving computer problems."

We encourage everyone to join us in supporting the Vermont Foodbank. To make a donation or get more information on how you can help fight hunger in Vermont, call 802-476-3341, or write to PO Box 254, S. Barre, VT 05670-0254.
